Soajo Village
The town of Soajo belongs to the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez, whose head office is about 20 km away, and to the district of Viana do Castelo and is part of PNPG - Peneda-Gerês National Park.
He regained the village title in 2009, but it had already been, having, however, been extinguished in 1952, as a result of the liberal reforms.
It is located in the high mountainous area of the Alto Minho and is one of the main ports of entry of the country along the orensana border of Galicia, a border that is bordered by the Castro Laboreiro River.
Soajo is also famous for the vast set of granaries erected on an enormous granite slab, used by the people as a community wall. The earliest date of 1782. These granite monuments were built at the time when corn was grown and served to protect the cereal from the weather and rodent animals. Its walls are separated so that the air circulates through the stacked ears. At the top are usually topped by a cross, which means the divine invocation for the protection of cereals. Some of these granaries are still used today by the local people.
